It's flattering to know that this world and its inhabitants were made for us. Allah (swt) has provided us with all these blessings as ways and opportunities to do good and maintain ourselves. We know that the world around us was created for us, but we must humble ourselves and understand the responsibilities that it comes with. With the permission of Allah, this world provides us with air to breathe, water to drink, supplies for shelter, food, luxury and every thing we can name. Since this world aids us, taking care of it is nothing but a self-investment. There's another benefit that is special to us Muslims. Islam and our Prophet (saw) encourage caring for our planet. There is even reward in the after life for taking initiative and trying to better our home. If someone does good, they will get reward and if their good carries on after them, it will be sadaqah jarriyah for them. Anas (ra) reported that the Prophet (saw) said: "If a Muslim plants a tree or sows a seed and then a bird or a person or an animal eats from it, it's regarded as a charitable gift (sadaqah) for him. (Bukhari) From this hadith it is prevalent that Islam promotes caring for our Earth. With the world's current condition, we have both spiritual and physical motivation to get a move on.
