Muslim Woman Forgives Her Son's Murderer

It's difficult to lose someone. What's more difficult is being a mother whose son was killed, robbed, and left by the gutter. Rukiye's son, Suliman, was shot by three young men as he was walking home to his wife with food. Rukiye came face-to-face with one of her son's killers in court and her actions left everyone speechless. She wasn't bitter or angry. She didn't yell at the boy who had inflicted a deep emotional wound upon her. Instead, she hugged the murderer and his tearful mother, and declared that she held no hate for him. In a heartfelt speech, she said that holding grudges was not something Islam taught; rather rahma was something we were ordered to show to others and that maybe her son's ordained death was a means for the boy to change his life of crime. Her firm belief in Allah and pure heart led her to forgive her son's murderer and display a moving act of mercy that serves as an example for us all. May Allah have mercy on her as she had mercy on the boy. Ameen.
