We will be suffocated by the results of our selfishness. Not in our generation, but maybe centuries from now we will have lost a vital component for our mere survival- oxygen. A single increase in temperature, or more precisely the 1.88 degrees in the past 2 centuries has led to over 50% of the coral reefs dying off and the destruction of habitats.

Phytoplankton- microscopic plants that reside in the ocean, create half of the worlds oxygen. Slowly, we are killing off the life that provides us bliss on land. We might one day need oxygen masks and tanks behind our backs to have an acceptable quality of life. Will we still have the pride to accept the destruction we’ve produced, to ignore the damage we’ve made? Surely, by the consumption of fossil fuels and the catastrophic results it will lay, our decision not to lower our pride and accept humility will surely be our downfall.
